THE MONTH OF NISAN/AVIV/ABIB AND THE BELIEVER IN MESSIAH

A Word From Karen...

“Observe the month of Aviv/Abib, and keep the Passover to the LORD your God: for in the month of Aviv/Abib, the LORD your God brought you out of Egypt by night” – (Deut. 16:1) (NKJ)

Today is the biblical New Year’s Day, Nisan 1 in the Hebrew calendar -religious calendar.  Before the first Passover, the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying, “This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you” (Ex. 12:1).  After the Passover, the Lord said, “This day came you out in the month Aviv/Abib” (Ex. 13:4).

Aviv/Abib is a Hebrew word literally meaning, “ears of barley.”  Aviv/Abib is the season when the barley crop is in early growth.  Aviv/Abib means to be tender and green, a young ear of grain.  There is significance in the stages of the barley crop.  We will discuss this in another newsletter.

Focusing on the word “Aviv/Abib”, let us break down this word according to the Hebrew alphabet.

Reading Hebrew from right to left, we see the letters (Aleph, Beth, Yod, Beth) spelling Aviv/Abib.

אב׳ב  (Aleph, Beth, Yod, Beth)

א – Aleph represents an Ox Head and has the meanings of being strong, in power, a leader, first.
ב – Beth represents a house, literally a tent, a family, a floorplan.
׳ – Yod represents a hand and means to work, to throw, to worship.

 ב– Beth represents a house, literally a tent, a family, a floorplan.

In searching out the word Aviv/Abib in the Hebrew pictographs, you can see a hidden meaning in its letters.

The strong leader (aleph) removed the Israelites from the house (beth) of bondage in Egypt.  By His strong hand (yod) He went before them to lead them to another home (beth), whose builder and maker is God.  The Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever.  His desire is for us to walk in a Covenant relationship with Him, with the ability to walk out His will.

We are approaching the Feast of Passover.  Let us prepare ourselves to cross over into a new and fresh season of our lives.  May we allow the Lord to deliver us from all bondage and lead us into total freedom.  “Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away.  Behold, the fresh and new has come!” (2 Cor. 5:17) (Amp).  May every hindrance be removed.

Remember, the Feasts are prophetic pictures of the first and second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus died to reconcile us to the Father, who is the strong leader of the house, our new home. (2 Cor. 5:18)
