“Now therefore give me this mountain”
(Jos. 14:12) (KJV)
The Lord commanded Moses to instruct Joshua that after he (–Moses) died, Joshua should give the tribes of Israel their inheritance allotments. Under Joshua’s command, the children of Israel performed as Moses had instructed and thus the land was apportioned.(Jos. 14:1,5)
As it was for the ancient Israelis, so it is for us. We all have an inheritance that comes through faith, appropriate action, and patience. (Heb. 6:12) We have warred with and continue to war with prophetic words. Now is the time for every man and woman in the Body of Christ to rise up and TAKE what belongs to us.
During this time of inheritance allotment, the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. At this place, Caleb, of the tribe of Judah spoke saying, “GIVE ME MY MOUNTAIN” (Jos. 14:12). Caleb spoke those words in Gilgal. We are reminded that the word “Gilgal” in Hebrew means “a wheel.” A wheel can represent a full circle or a complete cycle. Some of us are at the place in our lives where things have come full circle. I believe God is moving on our behalf to destroy the high places that have hindered our destinies through what we speak or have spoken. There are good mountains and evil mountains. The book of Job declares “He (God) puts forth His hand upon the rock; He OVERTURNS the (evil) mountains by the roots” (Job 28:9). Ezekiel says the same, “I prophesy to you, O (evil) mountains in my land; I command you to HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD AND BE REMOVED” (Eze. 36:4).
Caleb had to remind Joshua of the prophetic word of God through Moses to him concerning his inheritance. He rehearsed the prophetic word of the LORD to Joshua saying, ” Surely the land whereon your feet have trodden shall be your inheritance, and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God” (Jos. 14:9) (Deut. 1:36). The places where we are instructed to walk (watch over) become our inheritance. We do not have authority in places where we are not “watching.”
Caleb was only 40 years old when this word was first spoken to him. Some 45 years had passed and the word had not been realized. Caleb came before Joshua to make a demand for the release of what was promised and therefore belonged to him. When the Spirit of the LORD releases a prophetic word to us, it often does not happen immediately. What happens in-between the spoken word and the realization of the word is of extreme importance.
In-between the time Caleb was given the word and the fulfillment, he had this testimony:
- He was courageous. Num. 13:30; 14:6-9
- He persevered when others around him failed. Num. 14:37,38
- He was 100% sold out. Deut. 1:36
- He was faithful in old age; as vigorous at 85 as he was at 40. Jos. 14:10-14
- He was an invincible warrior who drove out the giants from his inheritance. Jos. 14:10-14
Caleb, by virtue of God’s promise, was qualified to stand before Joshua and make this demand, “GIVE ME THIS MOUNTAIN.” (Jos. 14:12) Not only did Caleb receive what he asked, he knew how to drive out the giants who were blocking him from taking possession. Rest assured, those reading this are not going to have to wait 45 years. THE TIME IS NOW!
What was/is your word from God, your promise? It may be the time, or past the time for you to rise up and war with the words, “Give me MY mountain.” Paul gave a charge to Timothy according to the prophecies which went before him, that by them he might war a good warfare. (I Tim. 1:18) We must learn to war a good warfare with the words we have been given. After Caleb received (took) his promised inheritance, the Word tells us “the land had rest from war.” (Jos. 14:15)
