“You are My friends if you keep on doing the things which I command you to do”
(John 15:14)(Amp).
Do you consider yourself to be a friend of the LORD? Jesus says in John 15:14 that we are His friends, if we do what He commands us to do.
We need to break-down this word friend to understand the heart of what Jesus is saying. The Greek word for friend in this sentence is philos. If we trace this word philos back to its Hebrew meaning, we find the word ra (Strong’s 7453). This word describes someone who is so intimately close that you can trust them with your secrets.
When you think of someone just giving you commands, it doesn’t seem intimate. It actually sounds impersonal. In this sentence, the word command describes a revealing of information needed to set out for a definite point or goal. (Strong’s G 1781). This command coming straight from the Lord to you reveals His prophetic purpose for you.
ABRAHAM GOD’S FRIEND
There was only one man in the Word of God who was called the friend of God. That was Abraham. His life is a model for us. Abraham’s life must be studied, as Isaiah tells us, “Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who bore you; for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him (Isaiah 51:2). To look to Abraham means to scan his life.
- Abraham was able to hear the Lord talk to him. (Gen. 12:1-4)
- He was an intercessor. (Gen. 18:16-33)
- He paid attention to details. (Gen. 15:7-10)
- He was deliberate in appealing to God for what pertained to his future. (Gen. 15:2)
- He knew who his source was. (Gen. 14:22-23)
- He believed God. He staggered not at the promise through unbelief, nor judged according to natural circumstances. (Rom. 4:20)
James 2:23 And [so] the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed in (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on) God, and this was accounted to him as righteousness (as conformity to God’s will in thought and deed), and he was called God’s friend. [Gen 15:6; 2Ch 20:7; Isa 41:8]
Much is happening in our Country. The LORD is revealing His strategy to His friends.
Blessings,
