“And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath”
(I Sam. 17:4). KJV
Probably every one of us, in one form or another, have experienced or are now experiencing a Goliath situation.
I’m writing today to encourage us to NOT fear what we see in the natural. An excellent example of this discipline is seen in David, who despite seemingly overwhelming odds against him, stood alone against the uncircumcised Philistine champion. Saul and all of Israel were afraid of this giant, (I Sam. 17:11), but David, who had previously been anointed king by Samuel, was not. (The Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day and never left him. (I Sam. 16:13) After David was anointed king by Samuel, the anointing departed from Saul.
We know that this Philistine, Goliath, drew near to David, pronouncing curses over him in his attempt to frighten and demoralize David. (I Sam. 17:42)
The enemy operated by taunting David, as he often does us with us. Remember David’s reply to Goliath’s threats, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the NAME of the LORD OF HOSTS, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” (I Sam. 17:45)
Taunting from the enemy is meant to create fear and its resulting distraction. If even for a moment we forget that we have been anointed by the Spirit of the LORD, we can fall victim to this enemy tactic.
Interestingly, the meaning of “Goliath” in the Hebrew language is “exile.” “Exile” means to strip something of its covering. On our behalf, The Lord of Hosts strips away the enemy’s camouflage and brings us the revelation knowledge we need to march forward into our destinies.
May the Spirit of the LORD strip from us any misunderstanding about our calling and our destiny in Christ. May God strip the enemy’s cover, and show us what battle plans we need to defeat him.
David made a decision to fearlessly defy an enemy of God. His decision on THAT day molded his destiny.
It is the Lord who promises the victory!
