A Word From Karen

THE MONTH OF IYAR AND THE ATTACK OF AMALEK

Iyar, the second month on the Hebrew calendar is a transitional time.  After leaving Egypt, Israel entered a time of testing, healing and spiritual warfare.

Iyar is a month of healing, learning obedience, and total dependence on God.

Much happened in this month.  In the month of Iyar, God released manna from Heaven. (Ex.16)  Manna had to be gathered daily.  “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matt. 6:11)  As then, so today, we must be trained to live by His Word daily, and not by relying on our carnal thinking.

THE ATTACK OF AMALEK

In the month of Iyar, Amalek, the grandson of Esau, attacked Israel.  Amalek did not fear God, and when Israel was weak, faint and weary, he attacked along the way and cut off all the stragglers at the rear. (Deut. 25:18)  If we are immature and weak as believers, we can cause issues for ourselves and for others resulting in division, arguments, gossip and even open doors for unity to be disrupted in the whole body.

Today, you may find yourself wearied due to constant warfare which is trying to prevent you from moving forward in your walk with God.  Amalek represents demonic resistance sent to prevent spiritual growth.  The spirit of Amalek is sent to attack covenant destiny, your covenant destiny.

REPHIDIM: THE PLACE OF THE WEAK HANDS

The attack of Amalek came at a place called “Rephidim”.  Moses stood on the hill at Rephidim holding the rod of God.  When Moses’ held up his hand, Israel prevailed.  When his hand was weakened, he let down his hand.  Then Amalek prevailed. (Ex. 17:10-11)  This reveals to us that spiritual warfare cannot be fought in our own strength and not by ourselves alone.  Moses’ two destiny helpers were Aaron and Hur.

It was Joshua (Yeshua) who was sent out to overthrow Amalek and his people using the edge of the sword. (Ex. 17:13)  Today, the Word of God is our two-edged sword and part of our armor.  We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. (Rev. 12:11)

At Rephidim, the Lord reveals a new Name.  Jehovah Nissi, “The Lord our Banner.”  For those of you who are enduring, The Lord your banner is lifting the burden from you and making your heavy load easy.

HEALING AND WARFARE

We know of many people who have come under attack in this month.  As we see, Scripture reveals patterns.  In this case we notice that Healing often precedes warfare.  Amalek attacks areas where we may be double-minded, lacking discernment, in pride and/or spiritually undisciplined.  So that we don’t faint under the burden, there is a cure provided to us from Heaven.  It was written centuries ago and is still available to us today.  The cure is “continual dependence upon God’s Manna (Word) and His presence.”

God ALWAYS stands with those who love and obey Him.  “The Lord will have war with our persecutor, Amalek from generation to generation” (Exodus 17:16).

Blessings,
