You may ask, what is the significance of the month of Tammuz? In the original Hebrew, the Bible numbered the months. Tammuz is the “fourth month” in the religious Hebrew calendar and is talked about in several places in the Bible: The books of Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Zechariah and Second Kings. If you study the ancient biblical calendar, the fourth month corresponds with June or July.
In the month of Tammuz, the twelve spies were sent on a forty-day mission to spy out the land. (Nu. 13:1) The Lord told Moses to send out men to search the land which He was already giving them. The land was already theirs, but they were being tested to search it out and to bring back a report of what they saw.
The tribe associated with the month of Tammuz is Reuben, the firstborn of Jacob. Reuben means “To SEE.” Reuben’s mother was Leah; when she gave birth to her firstborn son, she said “…. The Lord has LOOKED on my affliction.” (Gen 29:3)
HOW ARE YOU SEEING?
The twelve men sent out were the rulers of their respective tribes, the chief and chosen men. After the forty days, they came back with fruit so large, it took two men to carry one bunch of grapes on one staff. The men declared that this was a land that “flowed” with milk and honey. This is a picture of great bounty and prosperity.
Ten of the twelve tribes of Israel saw the fruitfulness of the promised land, but when they saw the giants who dwelt there said, “Nevertheless”. In Numbers 13:28 the word translated as “Nevertheless” is the Hebrew word ephes meaning to cease or bring to an end. There was a strong transition taking place. The men went from the ability to SEE the land already promised and filled with abundance, to the natural realm of fearing the giants. They literally pronounced (prophesied) death upon their destiny. They prophesied their final end by how they SAW the land. They saw it in their own eyes and not according to God’s promise.
The twelve tribes of Israel’s rulers and chiefs all saw the same thing, yet ten of the tribes perceived the promised land through their own carnal perception. This poisoned the minds of those involved with them. Their carnal vision generated murmuring, slander and unbelief which spread rapidly. “A little leaven leavens the whole lump” (Gal. 5:9).
Ten men saw the giants, two men saw the harvest.
Alignment
I sense so strongly in releasing this word that the Lord is bringing a warning in this month. Who are you aligned with and is their perception affecting you? “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily while it is called today” (Heb. 3:12-13).
May our hearts be fixed on the Lord today and throughout this month, and forever more.
