“And this day shall be to you for a memorial.
You shall keep it as a feast to the LORD throughout your generations, keep it as an ordinance forever”.
(Exod. 12:14)
Passover is a celebration to be observed forever. The spiritual applications are intended for all men, whether Greek, Jew, circumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond or free. Jesus is the Passover lamb slain for all men’s freedom. He is the male lamb for each house (Exod.12:3-4); the lamb for the nation (John 11:49-52); and a lamb for the world (John 1:29).
All males were to be circumcised in order to eat the Passover lamb (Exod. 12:48). If a stranger wanted to keep the Passover, he must be circumcised. There was one law for both the homeborn and the stranger (Exod. 12:49).
THE PRINCIPLE OF CIRCUMCISION
All male Israelites were circumcised before their deliverance from Egypt. Circumcision means to cut away the foreskin of the flesh.
In the book of Joshua we see a second circumcision at Passover, as those who were born in the wilderness had not been circumcised. (Jos.5:7).
As we have entered this 50 day season from Passover to Shavuot (Pentecost), a return to the principle of circumcision of our spiritual hearts is imperative. “So circumcise the foreskin of your [minds and] hearts; be no longer stubborn and hardened.” (Deut. 10:16)(AmpC)
Our human nature must be cut off to enter into the fullness of God’s presence.
Today true circumcision is of the heart, not something physical and external. (Romans 2:28-29)
As our hearts are continually circumcised, we are able to clearly hear the voice of the Lord.
