A Word From Karen

ARE WE SINCERE?

“That you may approve things that are excellent; that you may be sincere…” (Phil. 1:10)

Writing to the Philippians from a prison while under arrest, the Apostle Paul writes this letter to thank those who had supported him financially.  In this amazing letter, Paul encourages the saints by describing to them his contentment in his relationship with the Messiah.  Not knowing whether he would be released or executed, he remained in joy.

In Paul’s letter he admonishes the readers to be sincere.  This potent word “sincere” means, “that which is judged in sunshine.”  Sunshine is the strongest and purest light (Yeshua) in which to detect impurities or defects in fabric (us).

In Latin, the word for sincerity is sinceritas and is made up from the two Latin words, “sine” meaning without, and “cera” meaning wax.  So, the phrase means “without wax”.

“’Without wax’ is a metaphor taken from clarified honey; pure or clarified honey, no part of the comb being left in it.” 1

“The soul that is sincere is the soul that is without sin (purified).” 2

MOTIVES – SELFISH OR SINCERE

If our motives are selfish, our prayers may be hindered. We must constantly evaluate why we do what we do.  “Or when you ask, you do not receive because the reason you ask is wrong, you want things so you can use them for your own pleasures” (James 4:3).

In this realm, above all else, we must be honest with ourselves.  Walking in the Spirit rather than operating in the works of the flesh will keep us in the light.  The Lord wants to control every aspect of our lives.  To fully realize this blessing, we MUST walk in the Light.

May our motivation be like Jesus, who only did those things that pleased The Father. (John 8:29)

With love,

Karen J
