Iyar is the second month on the Hebrew calendar, positioned between deliverance (Passover in Nisan) and revelation (Shavuot in Sivan). This was a time of transition for the Israelites, a new season where the LORD brought them into their wilderness journey. In the month of Iyar, He would begin to teach them how to trust Him daily.
In the month of Iyar, Israel entered a place where there was no visible supply. God introduced something new: manna-bread from Heaven.
“Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from Heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no” (Ex. 16:4).
God gave the manna to His people to see if they would follow His instructions, and learn to live by every word that proceeded from His mouth. A certain rate can be translated in Hebrew as “the word of the day.”
- D’var: Word, matter
- Yom: Day
DAILY DEPENDENCE
The lesson to be learned in Iyar (the month of healing) is daily dependence upon the voice of the LORD. The Israelites were only to gather enough for each day, except for the Sabbath. As God was doing for the Israelites, He is doing for us. He trains us to live free from control and fear/anxiety. If they tried to store manna it spoiled. Fear based thinking reveals a poverty mindset.
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
Manna was not familiar to the Israelites. Likewise, God’s provision for us may not look familiar. We need discernment to recognize God’s voice when we don’t understand what He is doing. Remember, the manna appeared early. When the sun waxed hot, it melted. It dissolved and melted away. How many daily instructions have been ignored because we didn’t seek Him early?
HEALING AND ALIGNMENT
The month of Iyar is connected to “I am the LORD that healeth thee” (Ex. 15:26). Iyar is an acronym for the Hebrew words “I am the Lord that healeth thee – “Ani HaShem Rofecha.”
As we learn to trust God’s provision, He reveals Himself as healer.
This is a time of breaking double-mindedness. We must learn to discern His voice and provision. We can reject provision because we don’t recognize it.
Learning to live daily, yielded to the voice and instruction from the LORD brings us into alignment.
PRAYER FOR HEALING
In this month of Iyar, may Your people receive healing. Many are struggling with pain whether physically, emotionally, financially or spiritually. May health be restored in the name of Jesus. May full recovery in every area abound today. Lord, grant us wisdom, peace and strength.
